Thibodaux now has new cameras at several intersections and more to come i'm sure. Are these automated? Will we get tickets mailed to us for speeding or running red-lights or are they just "in case of accident"...  |

The cameras at some of the intersections in the city are not used to issue tickets or other citations to motorist. They are mainly to monitor traffic conditions. They are automated and are viewed in color at the police station and watched by an officer. They are able to zoom in really close to vehicles and people. Although many dont like this idea it will have no negative effect on someone unless they are doing wrong. In actuality many should encourage it because one thing it is being used for is determining fault in accidents in the intersections. Before it was your word against his word. Now they can look at the camera and determin who had a red or green light and such. There are also two mobile cameras that can be moved to high traffic locations or locations with large crowds for events such as mardi gras and will allow the police department to see events such as fights or riots much sooner.
